The mourning dove is still one of the most popular game species in the south. The wing shooting challenge presented, accompanied with the social aspect of the hunt, has made dove hunting an outdoor tradition in Georgia.
Any seasoned dove hunter knows that a well prepared field is the first and most important step to a successful hunt. At Tarver Grove Plantation, many acres of millet, corn and sunflowers are planted solely for doves each year. The fields are not agricultural fields. The crops are not harvested, rather left in the field for the doves. Also, the fields are well taken care of throughout the season to keep doves in the area.
Dove hunts at Tarver Grove are scheduled on predetermined dates from September to January. A "cookout style" lunch will be held before the first two hunts of the year. Following lunch, hunters will randomly draw for their spot in the fields. Hunters will then be taken to their area, and picked up at the end of the hunt.
A very limited number of hunters will be accepted to each shoot. This allows us to place hunters relatively far apart and make sure the field is not overcrowded. Safety is our number one concern!

Reservations are required for dove hunts.
